Progress on Kingdom Asunder has slowed somewhat recently. Partly that's because I was redrafting the plot outline and, er, forgot to write what Ch6 was meant to be. I have put together a basic outline and started writing it, though.
The other reason is rather more positive, namely that I've been trying my hand at a few short stories. If accepted, they'll be included in anthologies which will be traditionally published. As well as a nice line to add to any future cover letter and a little bit of money (with many authors the income from an anthology is necessarily a small percentage of what it would be for a single author novel) I'm hoping that anyone reading a short story will think how splendid it is, and then go and see what else I've written.
Kingdom Asunder is easily the most complicated and ambitious story I've ever written, and is likely to be the longest as well. An ETA is hard to try and conjure up, particularly with the short stories (I'm going to try and redraft them and write the first draft of Kingdom Asunder at the same time). If I can get it released in 2014 I'll be very happy.
I also plan on writing more of Sir Edric's stuff. I'll wait and see how I feel at the time, but if I get into the redrafting of Kingdom Asunder and have no other work to do I might start fleshing out storylines for Sir Edric's ongoing misadventures (ably assisted by Dog, of course). Right now I'm thinking of plague, treasure-hunting with Orff and rescuing an old flame as potential storylines.
Anyway, by chapters I'm roughly a quarter into Kingdom Asunder, so that's not bad.
