I slightly regret pricing Bane of Souls at 99c (roughly 72p), but I really loathe retconning, revisionism and the like, and I'd feel very uneasy about hiking up the price now. However, I do intend to sell Altmortis at a higher price (probably $1.99 or $2.99). I also plan to include a promotional code for the first week so those of you who enjoyed Bane of Souls enough to check my website/twitter will be able to buy Altmortis for 99c.
I've also learnt from a very successful self-published chap (Stephen Sweeney) that Amazon have rejigged their ranking system so that 99c books are lower down than their higher price counterparts.
I was toying with the idea of doing a short story (40-50k words, say) about Highford after the events of Bane of Souls and releasing it for free, as a promotional device. I've decided against this, primarily because that was never part of my original plan.
Another reason (which had slipped my mind) is that when I write book 1 of the yet-to-be-named trilogy due after Altmortis I'm going to release two versions. One will be the full (and priced) book, and the other will be a cut down version, probably from just one perspective (the trilogy will be about a civil war) and will be free. That's my plan, anyway.
I do intend to come back to Horst et al. properly at some point later, and one or two characters may well make cameos in the trilogy (probably not book 1).
Anyway, I've done the first draft of chapter 18 of 20. There's a bit of work to be done when redrafting but I'm broadly happy with it. I'm hoping to get the first draft finished in the next month or so.
